The NRA Members' Anti-Theft Sign

This isn't as elegant as the ``Life Member'' window sticker, but it was what I could cobble together quickly. The intent is to scare away would-be car or motorcycle thieves from NRA members' vehicles by using the thieves' own prejudices against them <grin>.

Instructions:

  1. Set your font size to 18 points via the ``Options'' or ``Preferences'' menu of your browser.
  2. Choose ``Print'' from the file menu, click ``landscape'' and ``Color'', and enter the command to send the file to a color PostScript printer. Despite how it may look on-screen (due to the size of your browser window, perhaps), the text will all fit on one line aligned to the right of the middle of the image. Trust me.
  3. Finally, print the file. Trim extra paper to get the smallest rectangle that contains the image and the text.
  4. If you desire, have the result laminated to protect it.
  5. Tape it to the inside of the back window of your car or truck, or to the underside of the windscreen of your motorcycle.

Some people have reported the addition of the ``And I'm watching you...'' text to have dramatic results. One person hid in the bushes and watched two would-be thieves walk up to his truck, read the sticker, look around quickly, and then run away! I won't guarantee this result, but I figured this little sign certainly couldn't hurt.

NOTE: This sign is not an official product of the National Rifle Association. I personally have no problem if you reproduce it for your own use or give it to friends, but the Association will likely have a problem if you reproduce it and try to make money by selling it without their express written permission. The NRA has very good lawyers, and takes an active interest in protecting its public reputation. Consider yourself warned.

For convenience, I have split the sign itself into a separate page so that nothing interferes with its layout on your printer. Click here to load the actual sign, and follow the instructions I gave you above to print it out. It turns out nicely on an HP1200C using glossy paper, btw (no, not a paid advertisement!).
