My 69 Grand Prix Restoration - 1

By: Charles E. Giannetta

I originally purchased my '69 Grand Prix in 1980. In 1982, I had a camshaft die. The lobes started to disappear and the engine did not want to run anymore. I had the short block, and heads done at a shop. All new parts were put in. This was my first rebuilding job at 22 years old.

I put the motor back together and then installed the new clutch. I rented an engine crane to install the engine into the car.

As for the paint and body, nothing was done. It was parked in 1985 and hasn't been driven since.

Since the car was parked for 13 years, I was afraid of a frozen motor. I should have taken the plugs out occasionally and sprayed lubricant in the cylinders and hand cranked the motor. I was surprised when I tried hand cranking the engine it was all right.
