In the fall of 1984, I sold my '77 Grand Prix for another '76 Chevy K5
4 wheel drive Blazer. It was brown and white and I lost some do-dads.
This was a BAD mistake. It really DRANK oil.
Later that fall of 1984, my girlfriends 75 Mustang Blew a head gasket.
I told her she should have bought my 77 Grand Prix, but she said it was
too big of a car. Well, with a little convincing, I got her into a 1976
Chevy Monte Carlo. It had a 350 cubic inch, 4 barrel engine. A lot of
power compared to the Mustang, and it also had Air Conditioning. This is
when I got her into BIG GM cars. I really wasn't a Ford guy.
January 1985, I traded the 76 Blazer, "Oil Drinker", in for another
1979 Chevy K5 4 wheel drive blazer. This truck was GREAT. It had all the
do-dads. It only had 34,000 miles on it. The used car salesman called it
"A DIAMOND". Six months later I drove to the same car lot, looking at
maybe buying another car for my girlfriend, and he asked me "Are you ready
to trade in that JUNKER, and by the way, that 76 Blazer you traded in,
the motor siezed up 10 miles after it drove off the lot". I said "Didn't
you check the oil". Oh well, I never went there again.
In the summer of 1985, I bought a 74 Cadillac Cpe DeVille. I bought it
because I saw a potential money maker. I got it for $1000, shined it up and
sold it for $1400. That wasn't too bad. The color, however, was a Burnt
orange, and the interior was PLAID. WOW!! What was I doing at 25 years old
with this 70's mobile??? Well, I made some MONEY!! That's all that COUNTS!!
The following year, October 1986, I bought another Cadillac. I was
caught between restoring My 69 Grand Prix or this car. The Blazers were
OK in the winter, but you just get tired of being jossled around with the
ride they have.
It was a 1978 Cpe DeVille, a much better color, steel blue,
with a dark blue leather interior. It came equiped with a fuel injection
system for each cylinder. I now know why the guy sold it. When it would
get hot, the engine would die. I checked all the sensors and found nothing.
The shop told me it would be $150 just to hook it up to the diagnostic
machine. Well, I went to the Junkyard, now an Automobile Recycling Center,
and bought an intake manifold and carburator, and ripped out the computer
and fuel injection garbage. The car ran like a DREAM!! All for $125.
January 1987, during another BLIZZARD, I was out looking for Snow Tires
for my Blazer. It had all-season tires on it, but I WANTED snow tires. I was
driving and climbing a hill that was wet, but when I got to the top of the
hill, the road turned into a sheet of ice. I slammed on the brakes, and
slid into the back of an '83 Chevy Citation Station Wagon. I caused $1500
worth of damage to the car. All I needed was a can of spray paint for my
Push Bumper. GOOD THING I HAD A CRUMPLE ZONE, his car!!!
