My 85 K5 BLAZER Project

By: Charles E. Giannetta

In May 1992, I sold my 79 Chevy K5 Blazer privately to purchase an 85 Chevy K5 Blazer. I really liked my 79, but when my tow chain fell through the rear floorboards, it was time to move on. I had the original 350 cu. in. motor taken out at 115,000 miles, and put in a smallblock 400. The transmission was a turbo 350 3 speed automatic with full time 4 wheel drive. The color was blue and white.

In my 85 Chevy K5 Blazer was a little 305 cu. in. motor. I really missed the POWER of the 400 smallblock. The 305 did the job pretty good until I got to a good sized hill. I had to manually downshift the 700R4 turbo hydramatic, which is a 4 speed with a locking torque conveter for GAS ECONOMY, into 2nd to get up the hill. It wouldn't go over 45mph in second without taking a chance on blowing the motor.

Between Christmas and New Years Day of 1995, the Transmission took a dump. I'm like, "THAT'S just ****ing GREAT, NOW WHAT AM I GONNA DO". Well I had AAA tow it to the shop. $1225 later it was done, but it was amazing they were able to do it before New Years Day.

It was October 96 I figured, since I had the tranny rebuilt, now would be a good time to put in the 400 smallblock.
