My 85 K5 BLAZER Project |
|---|
Well, $2300 later, On April Fools day, both transmissions were done.
The guy at the shop told us to stay away, that he didn't need that
little GREMLIN around him. He was nice enough to be able to get my
wifes car back up and running in the same day, and was able to get
my truck the next day, Friday. So Saturday, I ran the truck up to
get the 350 motor put in.
It ran GREAT!! The 350 motor and the rebuilt transmission purred like
a kitten. IT was like a NEW truck.
In MAY, my transfer case then decided to develope a leak, so I had that
taken care of. No biggy. Another day at the shop. After it was done,
the guy told me the front universals needed to be replaced. I said I
knew and was going to do that job myself in the fall.
Well, the truck purred once again, UNTIL October 5th, 98. The rear
axle pumpkin (10 bolt limited slip) decided, on my way to work, to BLOW
APART. I said to myself "NOW WHAT THE H*** HAPPENED". I can't really
complain. The truck now has over 180,000 miles on it. Once again,
its up on the flatbed going to the shop. I figured now I will have
a completely NEW DRIVETRAIN. Its still cheaper than buying a NEW
CHEVY TAHOE.
OK now. I'll get the truck back, and there are not many more MAJOR
things that can go wrong, right??
October 7th, I picked up the truck and while driving around 55 mph, I
noticed my tachometer was going higher and I wasn't going any faster.
"NOW WHAT". I think this truck doesn't like me anymore.
I lost the transmission. I had low gear and reverse. It has 6000 miles
on it. ONCE AGAIN UP ON THE FLATBED. I think this truck has more flatbed
miles than road miles on it.
I got it to the shop around 11:30 AM. I told the guy the story. Its
got a 12 month / 12,000 mile warranty, so I SHOULD be OK. He said we
should be able to look at it tomorrow. I called Thursday around noon.
He said we should be able to look at it tomorrow, I'm really backed up.
I called him Friday, he said It doesn't look like until Monday.
I guess since I am not a paying customer (warranty work) they put
you at the END OF THE LINE. This is the same place that was able to do
my wifes car in a day, and my truck in two. BIG MONEY...
I am a little PISSED right now. I made up my mind today, Saturday
October 10th, 1998, to buy another primary MOTOR VEHICLE. I am looking
for a 91-92 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, the big LAND YACHT, with a
350 cu. in. motor, and rear wheel drive. I will then use my wifes current
87 Cadillac and My 85 K5 BLAZER will be used in inclement weather or
to haul whatever.
Maybe then, I can get back to MY 69 Grand Prix. Knock on wood!!!
