The Killer Frogs

By Michelle Hess

One day two teen-age boys were going for a walk. The one boy's favorite animal was a frog. The other boy hated frogs. The boys were walking across a creek when the boy who liked frogs spotted a red tree frog. He was fascinated, because he'd never seen anything like it in his life -- not even in any of his books. So he went over and poked the frog with a stick.

The frog's eyes turned red and the frog began making an odd, loud, never-heard-before bellow. The bellowing became louder and louder until the boys could not stand the sound. They began screaming and, suddenly, the sound stopped. The frog's body turned from a slimy, little, red thing into a huge, red devil. The devil grabbed the boy who didn't like frogs and threw him into the nearby creek. The creek roiled and bubbled and turned into a ferociously deep puddle of blood. The boy who liked frogs moved to save his friend, but the devil blew flames at him and the shock threw him into the puddle of blood.

Meanwhile, the parents of the boys were worried sick. Each family filed missing person reports. The cops were on the case right away, but the last place they had thought to look was the creek. By the time they finally got around to searching the creek, it was no longer a puddle of blood but a clear, cool stream. However, the boys' clothes were found in the creek, along with two red frogs.
