The Lady Trojans of Tulpehocken were no match for Daniel Boone's eighth-grade girls' basketball team Jan. 22 as the Blazers won easily, 35-14.
The Lady Blazers started slowly, leading only 11-8 at the half. But starters Sarah Hampton number, Dani Wunderlich, Hilary Rice, Sandy Dinnella, and Lindsay Zyma were just warming up for a torrid second half.
Hampton opened the game with a nice shot to put the Blazers on the board. Soon after she was fouled, and she made one foul shot out of the two to increase the lead. Christie Brown, Hampton, Dinnella, and Kristen Pennypacker together made beautiful passes to move up the court that faked the Trojans right out of their uniforms. Sarah Pennypacker chipped in with a great block that stopped the Trojans in their tracks.
After the break the Blazers came back even more fired up. Hampton, Dinnella and Brown all made one foul shot as the Boone lead started to grow. Brown also made a quick pass to Hampton for an easy layup. Wunderlich made both of her foul shots, which helped the Blazers keep their lead. They went up nine points to make it 20-8 in the third period. The team didn't only play awesome offense -- the defense was even better.
The final period was just as good as all of the others. The Blazers weren't going to let the Trojans anywhere near the basket. Kristen Pennypacker, Hampton and Wunderlich all made perfect layups. Chevon Salata not only made two layups, but she also made a nice shot for two points.
