Football team enjoys a winning season
By Jacob Peterson
With a team dominated by eighth graders, the Daniel Boone Middle School football team posted a winning record of 6-4 this season. The Blazers had many contributors in wins over Hamburg, Pottsgrove, Central Catholic, Holy Name, Schuykill Valley and Owen J. Roberts. Coaches Brian Baker and Denny Smith handled the team.
"Coach Smith and myself had a lot of fun coaching this year," said Coach Baker. "I think that all the kids had fun too. They worked really hard. We really changed the view of the Blazers Junior High Football program this year. An example is we started out with only 25 kids and then ended up with 32. I believe we will change the High School team in later years. I cannot wait for next year!"
The team stuck together through tough losses to Conrad Weiser, Twin Valley, Wyomissing, and Kutztown. A few players that were standouts all year were Dean Millard, Randy Grebe, Eric Everhart, Kyle Salata, and Michael Mourar. A few people who also had a good year were James Evans, Steven Schaefer, Steven Lykens, Andrew Lenart, Jacob Peterson, Curtis Baker, and Ryan Ash. The team suffered a big loss in the latter part of the year when Ash went down with a broken collarbone.
This was a great year by the Blazers. All the blood, sweat, and tears all worked out at the end to become pride.
