Mr. Chapel and his math class wish Mr. Ulrich a Happy Thanksgiving

By Bill Tate

"Happy Thanksgiving" can be said in many ways, but Mr. Chapel and his math class expressed their wish in a way Hallmark never considered. Before beginning Thanksgiving vacation, Mr. Chapel led his math class in a musical "tribute" to fellow teacher, Mr. Jim Ulrich, sung to the tune of "George of the Jungle."

The lyrics were composed by Jim Evans (a.k.a., "Little Jungle Jim") and Lisa Rawle, the eighth grade's entries for the 1998 Grammy Award for Lyrics. As Mr. Ulrich looked on in amazement, the class sang out "Jim, Jim, Jim of the Jungle, bald as he can be! Jim, Jim, Jim of the Jungle, balder than you and me. AAAAHHHHHHH! Watch out for that tree!"

A "Presentation Poster" (not-so-secretly-hung on Mr. Ulrich's door by "Little Jungle Jim" Evans and Jef Strunk) accompanied the impromptu concert, which was videotaped for posterity by Jerrold Reber.
