The Garand Page
     U.S. .30 Caliber M1 Rifle

This site deals with the United States .30 Caliber M1 Semi-automatic Rifle, better known to collectors as the M1 Garand Rifle. Mr. John C. Garand was the inventor of this rifle and he worked at the United States Armory, known as the Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts. This rifle allowed the United States to enter into World War II as the only Army having a semi-automatic rifle as standard issue.
After more than 25 years of  research at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Springfield Armory (S.A.), and the National Archives, I have found some very important files about this rifle.
All files on this site, and its sister site (link at bottom of page), are copies of the Original Ordnance files. 60 years ago no one thought that these combat rifles would become collectors' items. Over the years many files on the M1 Garand were lost or destroyed, so many of the files are incomplete. However, my hope is that the Ordnance files presented at both sites will help you to gain a better understanding of the M1 Garand rifle's history.

I have compiled many of my M1 Garand Ordnance files and written two books on the rifle's history and production. I have also gathered some archival film footage of Garand rifle production and testing, and offer that information in both CD and video formats. If you would like information about Volume 1 or Volume 2 of The Garand Papers or the CD/video, or how to order any of the products, you can follow the link below about "Ordering Information."
