United States Rifle Model 1903
1918 manufacture, rebuilt 1942
USMC #10 sights

This is a rather interesting (to me) example of the M1903 "Springfield".  It is a WWI era rifle rebuilt for WWII, the barrel is a Springfield Armory replacement dated 1942.  It was reparkerized and the stock was restamped with the Augusta Arsenal rework inspector stamp.

Additionally, it has the US Marine Corps type sights.  The main differences between these sights and the standard M1905 sight are that the front blade is higher and wider and has an undercut at the rear to cut glare, it is fitted with a larger sight cover that the marksman can actually see through and the rear sight has a simpler aperture plate with a large .10" aperture.  The Marines found that the original sights were too "fine" for use in the battlefield, while match shooters found the original sights a joy on the range.
