He came to Salem from Amesbury in 1730. He was a blacksmith as appears by the Quaker Records of his marriage. He occassionally went fishing and the tradition is that he was drowned at sea in 1756. He died poor leaving a family of three children.
Hannah's relationship is proved by deed of 4 Sep 1733 from David Nichols and Hannah, his wife, to Jonathan Harris through which they conveyed land in Methuen, 'being the twelfth part of a farm formerly in the possession of our father Samuel Gaskill and John Wooding both of Salem deceased.'142,196
