At one time, Abraham was thought to be a brother of Henry, the Mayflower passenger. This is not true, though it is possible that their fathers were brothers. Robert Leigh Ward, in TAG 56:141-143 presented "Henry Sampson's Paternal Grandfather" with extracts from the parish register of Campton, co Bedford, England. Henry's father, James Sampson had a brother Laurence. Laurence Sampson m. Mary Shabery Cranfield, co. Bedford, 2 June 1601. Among their children is an Abraham, bapt. 14 Aug. 1614 about whom Robert L. Ward says "possibly, though not proved, the Abraham1 Sampson of Duxbury in 1629. The ages of the two Abrahams are close and the Duxbury man named a son George and a daughter Mary. Furthermore, descendants of Abraham1 and Henry1 intermarried, a common occurance among cousins in that period."
