George Penland [1561]
In 1817 he received 600 acres on Cold Spring and Fines Creek, this land is located several miles north of Waynesville, North Carolina, in the beautiful rugged mountains. Both streams are tributaries of the Pigeon River. This grant is presumed as payment for service in the war of 1812. Since both he and his brother Robert, served in the militia unit commanded by Lt. Elijah Dever, in Capt. John McClure's Co. George married Rachel Moore [1771] [MRIN: 538], daughter of Captain WILLIAM HAMILTON Moore Sr. [1754] and Margaret Patton [1767], in 1804 in Burke County, NC. (Rachel Moore [1771] was born in 1782 in North Carolina and died in 1866 in North Carolina.) |
