• Notes. John Newton Penland served in the Revolutionary War in Robert Sr.s place. There is evidence of Robert's will on file in the North Carolina State Archives, but, it hasn't shown up on line as of 4/4/2007

Robert married Elizabeth Brank [852] [MRIN: 265], daughter of Robert Brank [1846] and Elizabeth [1847], in 1772 in Rowan County, NC. (Elizabeth Brank [852] was born in 1748 in Bladen County, NC and died on 26 Jan 1841 in Burke County, NC.)
