He glides smoothly, almost effortlessly, onto the stage in his wheelchair. He has been using the chair since he was a kid, so it's his natural way of getting around.
So before he speaks a word, McClenahan belts out an a cappella show tune, a boisterous number from Mame in a strong, confident tenor voice. The audience is taken aback. "Not your normal opening for a speaker," McClenahan allows. "But it got your attention."
In his lecture, "The Difference in All of Us," McClenahan, 65, talks about the importance of finding, cherishing and cultivating what it is about ourselves that makes us special.
McClenahan was highly in demand as a lecturer in eastern Pennsylvania, where he grew up and lived until about a year and a half ago. When he wasn't lecturing, he was teaching theater, acting and directing plays and musicals. He played General Bullmoose in L'il Abner, Fagin in Oliver, the title role in Barnum.
